The HeART of Marion project consists of a group of local volunteers and artists identifying key locations throughout the city needing beautification. Beautification activities include painting or installing murals on the side of buildings, cleaning up the areas surrounding the murals, and installing benches and fixtures. Our organization was created through the Marion Area Chamber of Commerce Leadership! Marion Program, Class of 2022/2023! 

It’s no secret that murals make neighborhoods beautiful! They add color to building walls and streets that would otherwise go unnoticed, which is a treat for locals and tourists alike. 

Murals attract local businesses, help bring customers to
pre-existing locations, and boost the economy of an area. Some cities even offer walking and biking public art tours as a great way to interact with a city and its art!

• Identify ideal mural locations in Marion and reach out to property owners

• Reach out to community partners and local artists

• Identify potential sponsors and volunteers

• Develop promotional materials and community-based art programs

• Secure funding for beautification and mural supplies

Murals are a lot more than pretty images. They’re community assets that inspire pride in residents and spur economic growth and job creation. 

This project has the potential to not only beautify Marion but also to increase tourism, community involvement, and community pride.
